چکیده

SHORT-ROOT (SHR) is a well characterised regulator of radial patterning and indeterminacy of the Arabidopsis primary root. However, its role during the elaboration of root system architecture (RSA) remains unclear. We report that the indeterminate wild-type Arabidopsis root system was transformed into a determinate root system in the short-root (shr) mutant when growing in soil or agar. The root growth behaviour of the shr mutant results from its primary root apical meristem (RAM) failing to initiate cell division following germination. The inability of shr to reactivate mitotic activity in the RAM is associated with the progressive reduction in the abundance of auxin efflux carriers, PIN1, PIN2, PIN3, PIN4 and PIN7. The loss of primary root growth in shr is compensated by the activation of anchor root primordia whose tissues are radially patterned like wildtype. However, SHR function is not restricted to the primary root but is also required for the initiation and patterning of LRP. In addition, SHR is necessary to maintain the indeterminate growth of lateral and anchor roots. We conclude SHR regulates a wide array of Arabidopsis root-related developmental processes. www.plantphysiol.org on July 15, 2017 Published by Downloaded from Copyright © 2010 American Society of Plant Biologists. Arabidopsis BIRD Zinc Finger Proteins Jointly Stabilize Tissue Boundaries by Confining the Cell Fate Regulator SHORT-ROOT and Contributing to Fate Specification.

Plant cells cannot rearrange their positions; therefore, sharp tissue boundaries must be accurately programmed. Movement of the cell fate regulator SHORT-ROOT from the stele to the ground tissue has been associated with transferring positional information across tissue boundaries. The zinc finger BIRD protein JACKDAW has been shown to constrain SHORT-ROOT movement to a single layer, and other B...

The Arabidopsis Phosphatidylinositol Phosphate 5-Kinase PIP5K3 is a key regulator of root hair tip growth.

Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PtdIns(4,5)P2] functions as a site-specific signal on membranes to promote cytoskeletal reorganization and membrane trafficking. Localization of PtdIns(4,5)P2 to apices of growing root hairs and pollen tubes suggests that it plays an important role in tip growth. However, its regulation and mode of action remain unclear. We found that Arabidopsis thaliana ...

Funneling of gibberellin signaling by the GRAS transcription regulator scarecrow-like 3 in the Arabidopsis root.

During plant development, because no cell movement takes place, control of the timing and extent of cell division and coordination of the direction and extent of cell expansion are particularly important for growth and development. The plant hormone gibberellins (GAs) play key roles in the control of these developmental processes. However, little is known about the molecular components that int...

Nfic gene disruption inhibits differentiation of odontoblasts responsible for root formation and results in formation of short and abnormal roots in mice.

BACKGROUND Nuclear factor I genes play an important role in the development of the brain, lung, and roots of teeth. We had reported that Nfic-deficient mice form normal crowns, but abnormal roots of molar teeth. However, the mechanism by which the disruption of Nfic gene causes abnormal root formation remains unknown. METHODS To understand this mechanism, the root formation in Nfic-deficient ...

An AGAMOUS-related MADS-box gene, XAL1 (AGL12), regulates root meristem cell proliferation and flowering transition in Arabidopsis.

MADS-box genes are key components of the networks that control the transition to flowering and flower development, but their role in vegetative development is poorly understood. This article shows that the sister gene of the AGAMOUS (AG) clade, AGL12, has an important role in root development as well as in flowering transition. We isolated three mutant alleles for AGL12, which is renamed here a...
